There is a growing interest in investigation and teaching of academic language in English for Academic Purposes (RAP) field for a better understanding of academic texts for EFL learners, practitioners and researchers. Snow (2010) states that academic language uses sophisticated words and complex grammar constructions in order to be concise, precise and authoritative in terms of having a scientific technicality that can problematic for reading comprehension and can cause a mental block in learning for students who need. help to acquire academic vocabulary and how to process academic language. For a precise and accurate language, academic texts also have more lexical density and a more varied and specialized vocabulary. Considering, this particular study examines the usage of adverb types in academic vocabulary by EFL learners' argumentative essays. Turkish, German and Japanese Bub-corpora of ICLE corpus have been analyzed. due to Paquot's Academic Keyword List (2010), The results have been compared to the findings obtained from LOCNESS corpus as the native English speaker data. Results showed that three EFL learner university students from different Ll backgrounds used more adverbs than native English university students in argumentative essays whereas they used less adverbs than native English students in more formal academic texts like proposals, theses or projects. Next comparison in EFL groups revealed that Turkish learners used fewer adverbs than German and Japanese learners in their argumentative essays.
